Towbars from the market leader

The right towbars for retrofitting for everyday use, leisure and transport

A towbar adds new possibilities to your vehicle - from bicycle carriers to trailers and caravans. ORIS develops towbars in close cooperation with leading car manufacturers and consistently transfers this expertise from original equipment to retrofitting. The systems not only offer exceptionally high quality. They are also based on the original mounting points and load specifications of the vehicle manufacturers and therefore offer a precise fit, high load capacity and secure integration. With a particularly wide range for numerous car, SUV and commercial vehicle models, ORIS has the right solution for almost every application.

One towbar - countless possibilities

Which towbar is right for me?

Choosing the right towbar depends primarily on how often it is used and what it is used for. Anyone who regularly moves heavy trailers or is dependent on reliable transport solutions for work will benefit from a permanently mounted fixed towbar. For occasional use, such as for a bike carrier or caravan on holiday, a detachable towbar offers a flexible solution, as the ball neck can be removed when not in use.

Retractable systems offer maximum convenience: they remain permanently installed on the vehicle and are immediately ready for use when required, without the need to fit or stow parts. Fully electric retractable towbars, such as the ORIS_E3, can be operated at the touch of a button and disappear invisibly behind the bumper in everyday use. This allows the function of a towbar to be utilised without compromising on design or ease of use.

Towbars for bicycle transport & FIX4BIKE®

For many vehicle owners, bicycle transport is the most important application. Towbars offer a particularly stable and convenient solution here, especially for heavy e-bikes. Special systems such as the FIX4BIKE® invented by ORIS enable particularly simple and play-free attachment of compatible bike carriers while increasing safety and ease of use.

Frequently asked questions about towbars

The decisive factors are the vehicle model, permissible trailer load and planned use. If you regularly tow heavy trailers, you should opt for a particularly robust solution. A detachable towbar is often sufficient for occasional use, while retractable systems offer maximum convenience. Bicycle transport, especially with e-bikes, can also be an important decision criterion. In this case, a FIX4BIKE® towbar from ORIS is recommended. The system recommended by the German Automobile Association (ADAC) enables bicycles and e-bikes to be transported particularly easily, conveniently and safely.

Yes, suitable retrofit solutions are available for many vehicles. The installation is carried out in a specialist workshop, which installs the towbar and integrates the wiring kit into the vehicle electrical system. This means that the vehicle can also be retrofitted with a fully-fledged towbar solution.

Modern towbars generally have European Type Approval (ECE). In most cases, therefore, no additional registration in the vehicle documents is required, provided the towbar is fitted professionally. The decisive factor is that the system is approved for the respective vehicle and is installed in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications. For older vehicles or special conversions, different regulations may apply in individual cases.

Fixed towbars are particularly robust, low-maintenance and always ready for use. They are ideal for frequent use or heavy loads and usually offer the most cost-effective solution.

Detachable systems such as ORIS AK4 and ORIS AK41 offer a good balance of function and suitability for everyday use. The ball neck can be fitted when required and then removed again so that the vehicle can be used without a visible towbar.

Retractable towbars offer the greatest convenience, as they remain permanently installed on the vehicle and can simply be folded out when required. Fully electric variants such as the ORIS_E3 enable operation at the touch of a button and are completely invisible in everyday use.

The permissible trailer load is generally specified by the vehicle manufacturer and is entered in the vehicle documents. A retrofitted towbar must not exceed these values, even if the towbar itself is technically designed for higher loads. The decisive factor is therefore always the data for towing capacity and drawbar load specified in the vehicle registration document, which may vary depending on the vehicle model.
